Homemade Chili’s Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients
1 block of mozzarella cheese (cut into thick slices)
all-purpose flour
4 eggs (whisked)
Italian breadcrumbs
salt
black pepper
onion powder
garlic powder
paprika
Oil (for frying)
- Nashville Hot Sauce:
cayenne pepper
paprika
onion powder
garlic powder
brown sugar
oil
Directions
- Cut the mozzarella cheese into thick slices.
- In a bowl, add the flour.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs.
- In another bowl, combine the Italian breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.
- Dip each mozzarella slice into the flour, coating it evenly.
- Next, dip it into the whisked eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated.
- Finally, coat it in the seasoned breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Repeat the process (flour, egg, breadcrumbs) for a double coating to ensure a thick, even crust.
- Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a tray or plate and freeze for at least 1 hour (or longer for a firmer coating).
- Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully fry the mozzarella sticks for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- In a bowl, combine cayenne pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and brown sugar.
- Add some of the hot frying oil to the spice mixture and stir until it forms a paste-like sauce.
- Toss the fried mozzarella sticks in the hot sauce until evenly coated.
